Lost in Translations

USED: procreate sketch, indesign, illustrator

“Lost in Translations” was my senior exhibition project at Loyola. My goal was obviously to create something related to design that’ll help me graduate but this project became more than just that. I dedicated it to everyone who might be struggling with their identity as the children of first-generation immigrants or first-generation immigrants themselves.

After moving to the US from the Philippines, my ability to speak my native language lessened with every passing year. Although I’m no longer fluent in speaking Tagalog, I’m still fluent in comprehension, which is why I had the idea of creating a “guide book” for all of the weird phrases I still remembered.

I wanted something simple for the illustrations as I knew the copy was going to take up a lot of space. I started my sketches on my iPad using Procreate then recorded the pronunciations. From there, I arranged the pages on InDesign.
